Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace 4.2d: 4.2 Protect containers, structures and plant from impact

Structures and plant used to store or handle hazardous chemicals, with attached pipework and equipment, should be located and fixed on stable foundations to avoid damage from movement. Impact protection may be needed for structures holding large quantities, plant and equipment including vessels, pipework, pumps and controls, storage areas including transit storage for packages, intermediate bulk containers and their racks, and exposed parts of fire protection systems. The most effective measure is to site containers away from trafficable areas or prevent vehicle access, with bollards and guardrails as an alternative designed to absorb the energy of any reasonably foreseeable impact and minimise injury.
