The PCBU must provide information, training and instruction that is suitable and adequate having regard to the nature of the work, the psychosocial hazards and risks, and the controls to be implemented (WHS Act s 19; WHS Regulations r 39). Training should require workers to show competence rather than only acknowledge understanding. Supervisors and managers who have a role in applying behaviour policies must be trained, for example in what to do when they see or are told about violence, aggression, bullying or sexual harassment and where to get guidance. Information and training must be in a form workers can understand, including other languages, and may be needed for visitors and customers. The level of supervision depends on risk and experience, with high supervision for inexperienced workers using new procedures or doing difficult and critical tasks.
