Chapter 5 Controlling the risks: hierarchy of controls, maintenance and review, personal hearing protectors, audiometric testing – Australia Model Code of Practice Managing Noise and Preventing Hearing Loss at Work

Australia Model Code of Practice Managing Noise and Preventing Hearing Loss at Work 5.4-OTO: Monitor hearing with regular audiometric testing where workers are exposed to listed ototoxic substances above half the workplace exposure standard regardless of noise, to any ototoxic exposure with noise above 80 dB(A) LAeq,8h or 135 dB(C) peak, or to hand-arm vibration with noise above those levels

What does 5.4-OTO require?

Regular audiometric monitoring is recommended in situations beyond the mandatory testing: where workers are exposed to any ototoxic substance listed in Appendix B at an airborne exposure above 50 per cent of the workplace exposure standard for that substance, without regard to respiratory protection worn and regardless of the noise level; where there is exposure to ototoxic substances at any level together with noise above an LAeq,8h of 80 dB(A) or an LC,peak above 135 dB(C); and where there is hand-arm vibration at any level together with noise above those levels.
