When a customer discloses, or the insurer identifies, difficulty paying premiums due to hardship, the insurer contacts them about flexible support options, which may include reducing benefits or sums insured to cut the premium, prioritising a claim for a covered condition under the urgent-help clauses, or suspending premium collection briefly with the warning that events during suspension may not be claimable. Taking up an option triggers an explanation of its effect, including any reduction in cover and its duration, and the customer is contacted before the option ends. Options are reviewed periodically against community changes and government measures. Help is decided on reasonable evidence only, such as government benefit statements, bank statements or proof that employment ended. Group policies are excluded.
