Where the insurer uses independent service providers for underwriting, policy administration or claims management, every service agreement entered or renewed after the insurer became bound carries the Code standards relevant to the service. Providers are required to follow the seven principles, obtain the insurer's approval before subcontracting, report within five business days any complaint made to them about their services, and keep customer information confidential and use it only for the contracted service.
