Australia Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth) s44: s 44 Average provisions: inform before entry, and apply the 80% rule for homes

An insurer relies on an average (underinsurance) provision in a general insurance contract only if, before entry, it clearly informed the insured in writing of its nature and effect, including whether it is based on indemnity or replacement value. For buildings used as a residence and their contents, no reduction applies where the sum insured is at least 80% of the property's value, and below that any reduction is limited to the statutory formula.
