No person prescribes an optical appliance (spectacle lenses or any appliance correcting sight defects, and contact lenses whether corrective or not) unless they are an optometrist or medical practitioner, an orthoptist on the Australian Orthoptists Registration Body register prescribing spectacles in a public health facility, under supervision, or on written referral after an ocular health examination in the previous 12 months, or a person prescribed by regulation. Offence: up to $60,000 or three years' imprisonment.
