Wiring fixed by fasteners, held by insulation or passing through structural members and concealed within 50 mm of the surface of a wall, ceiling, floor or roof is protected by mechanical protection of at least WSX3, earthed metallic armour or enclosure that operates short-circuit protection, or a 30 mA RCD; RCDs are otherwise not a substitute for mechanical protection, and wiring likely to be disturbed is supported and protected.
