AS/NZS 3000:2018 Electrical Installations (Wiring Rules) 1.6: 1.6 Design of an electrical installation

The installation is designed to protect people, livestock and property, work as intended, connect safely to the supply, allow it to be operated, inspected, tested and maintained safely, and reduce inconvenience from faults (the 2018 text points to Appendix M on supply disruption for users with special needs). The designer determines supply characteristics (a.c. or d.c., conductors, voltage and tolerance, frequency, maximum current, prospective short-circuit current, earthing system, limits and harmonics), maximum demand, a utilisation voltage suited to equipment, and a circuit arrangement that limits danger and inconvenience.
