Yearly: complete monthly and six-monthly activities; partially open every hydrant valve, above and below ground, to prove water at each point (a flow-limiting adapter on internal hydrants is recommended); operate all water supply, underground key-operated and subsidiary stop valves two full turns, confirm them open, secured and labelled, check position indicators and test each valve monitor at the CIE; verify non-return valves move and seat freely; verify hydrant hose waterways are clear; operate the pressure-reducing station under flow, verify low-side pressures, operate the relief valve and set it to relieve 50 kPa above the reducing valve's operating pressure, renewing the tamper seal as needed; prove each water supply by a flow and pressure test through a fixed flow meter or with portable apparatus at the most hydraulically disadvantaged hydrants (with sprinkler and hydrant demands together where one supply serves both, and on the most remote hydrant of each pressure zone in high-rise buildings); test interfaces through pressure or flow switches; tanks to Section 5; check and clean river or lake suction strainers and screens; and survey pipework, supports, obstructions to hydrant access, whether the design still suits the building use, and that the block plan, emergency instructions and pressure schedule meet AS 2419.1.
