Monthly, where pumpsets are fitted: complete the Section 3 monthly pump activities; confirm the isolating valves serving pump start pressure switches are secured open and pressure switches are mounted and protected; start each pumpset from its pressure starting device and again manually, run it per Section 3 and record cut-in pressures (multiple starting devices may be rotated, each exercised at least every 3 months, or 6 months where more than 5 successive starts would be needed). Six-monthly: operate all water supply stop valves, backflow and underground key-operated valves (unless the water authority owns them) two full turns and confirm them open, secured and labelled; check above-ground and below-ground hydrant valves for access, handwheels, blanking caps, cover plates and leaks; check booster assemblies for access, handwheels, gauges, caps, inlet washers and legible maximum working pressure and block plan labels; depressurise at the most hydraulically disadvantaged hydrant to confirm the pump starts; check hydrant and booster couplings suit the local brigade; check hydrant hose, branches and nozzles, cabinet contents, foam containers and signage; check cabinets are accessible, clear and marked; check low-side pressures of pressure-reducing or limiting valves against the design; and check the block plan is legible and correctly placed.
