Monthly: check pump areas are clear, not used for storage and adequately lit, and that relief valve discharge cannot flood; check the 'Danger this Pump Starts Automatically' sign, identification plates on controller, driver, base plate and pump, and the controller's 'Fire Pump Controller' labelling, instructions and labelled lights (AS 2941); check water supply valves open or closed as labelled and secured; record gauge readings; tanks to Section 5; look for physical damage. For diesel pumpsets: check monitor and start batteries and enclosures, clean terminals, record float charge voltage of each battery, top up electrolyte, check battery signage and that capacity or cold cranking amperage is right; check engine warming devices; confirm the fuel tank is full; check the controller for corrosion and ingress, indicators and sounders and that the main switch is on and secured with no warning lamps; carry out pre-test checks (guards, water supply, valves, drains, fuel water trap); start on reduced pressure and run the engine at least 10 minutes on the first automatic start, reaching full speed within 15 s, restart manually, and record start pressures, run time and hour meter; during the run check discharge and suction pressures, glands, vibration and noise, local and remote pump running alarms, speed, leaks, charger or alternator output, stop mechanism, belts, charger power fail alarm, oil pressure and temperature, circulation relief flow at shut-off, exhaust and cooling water. For electric pumpsets: check guards and enclosure, controller status and lamps, start automatically and manually running at least 3 minutes each, record pressures and run time and pump running indications, check controller batteries against their plate and record float voltage. Return all equipment to operational condition afterwards.
