A ramp longer than 1900 mm may be no steeper than 1 in 14 and keeps a constant gradient (predecessor tolerance 3 % provided no part exceeds 1 in 14). Landings are needed top and bottom and at intervals of no more than 9 m at 1 in 14 and 15 m at 1 in 20, interpolated between. Each side carries a handrail to Section 9, handrails at least 1000 mm apart and extending at least 300 mm past the top and bottom transitions unless the inside rail runs unbroken around an intermediate landing. At a property boundary the ramp is set back at least 900 mm keeping handrails and tactile indicators out of the crossing path; at an internal corridor the set-back is at least 400 mm. Where the handrail is not wall-supported, ramps and intermediate landings have kerbs or kerb rails at least 65 mm high with the top kept out of the 75 mm to 150 mm height band and no lengthwise gap wider than 20 mm within that band, located relative to the handrail as the Standard details.
