Walkway edges need either a firm, level strip of a different material at least 600 mm wide following the walkway grade, or a kerb, a kerb rail with handrail, or a wall at least 450 mm high. In the predecessor, walkways need landings at no more than 25 m apart at 1 in 33 and 15 m apart at 1 in 20, interpolated between, none being needed flatter than 1 in 33, and the spacing may grow by 30 % where one side has a kerb or kerb rail with handrail, or a wall with handrail.
