Physical and technical security can slow responders unless kits are prepared and placed to help them get past it. The organization should create, maintain and secure emergency response kits containing: tools to enter the facility such as access badges or grand master keys; a laptop or tablet with wireless connection to the organization's network for digital floor plans, contacts and, where possible, live camera feeds; hard-copy property maps and floor plans, with annotated aerial photos; a contact list of emergency management personnel including incident command positions; radios that let responders talk to security, facilities, engineering, safety and other staff; wedges to hold doors, torches, indelible markers and paper; and hemorrhage control kits for trained employees with tourniquets, clotting bandages, gauze or trauma dressings.
