AASB 1 First-time Adoption of Australian Accounting Standards
Optional exemptions from other Standards (paragraphs 18 and 19, Appendices C, D and E) – AASB 1 First-time Adoption of Australian Accounting Standards

AASB 1 First-time Adoption of Australian Accounting Standards E1-E2,E8: Short-term exemptions: comparatives need not comply with AASB 7 and AASB 9 for first periods beginning before 1 January 2019, with the previous GAAP basis disclosed and the catch-up adjustment in opening equity; a transition date before 1 July 2017 allows Interpretation 23 to be left out of comparatives

What does E1-E2,E8 require?

An entity whose first reporting period under the Standards started earlier than 1 January 2019 and that applies the 2014 version of AASB 9 may present comparatives for items within AASB 9 under its previous GAAP rather than AASB 7 and AASB 9; if it does, it discloses that fact and the basis used, and recognises any difference between the comparative-date position and the opening position of the first reporting period in retained earnings or another equity component, treating the start of that first period as the transition date for those items and giving the AASB 7 transition disclosures. An entity whose transition date is before 1 July 2017 may leave Interpretation 23 on uncertain tax treatments out of its comparatives, recognising the cumulative effect in opening retained earnings of the first reporting period.
