AASB 1 First-time Adoption of Australian Accounting Standards
Optional exemptions from other Standards (paragraphs 18 and 19, Appendices C, D and E) – AASB 1 First-time Adoption of Australian Accounting Standards

AASB 1 First-time Adoption of Australian Accounting Standards D19-D19C: Designate financial instruments at the transition date: any financial liability or financial asset meeting the AASB 9 criteria at fair value through profit or loss, equity instruments at fair value through other comprehensive income, and decide the own credit risk presentation on the facts at that date

What does D19-D19C require?

At the transition date the entity may make three irrevocable designations: a financial liability into the fair value through profit or loss category where the AASB 9 paragraph 4.2.2 criteria hold at that date, a financial asset into that category on the paragraph 4.1.5 facts at that date, and an equity investment into fair value through OCI on the facts at that date. For a designated liability, whether presenting the own credit risk effect in other comprehensive income would create or enlarge an accounting mismatch is judged on the facts at the transition date.
