Construction and decommissioning projects protect nearby communities from general site hazards, disease and traffic. Measures include site security and exclusion of the public from hazardous areas, preventing communicable disease spread by the workforce as in section 3.6, and managing the large increase in heavy vehicle movements through education and awareness-raising, route and schedule planning and the adoption of traffic safety measures set out in section 3.4, to minimise accidents involving project vehicles.
