WA health entities must implement local governance systems, structures and processes for the responsible and safe adoption of AI in line with the standard, and identify an executive AI Accountable Officer to oversee AI governance. In detail they comply with the WA Government AI Policy and Assurance Framework; identify accountability and responsibilities for responsible use and adoption, including the AI Accountable Officer with overall responsibility for the organisation's AI strategy so that adoption aligns with the ethics principles, strategic objectives, policy frameworks, governing law and the external environment; ensure AI governance processes are consistent with existing governance frameworks for clinical safety and quality, ethics, digital health, ICT, information and research; ensure sufficient expertise is available to the governance bodies and authorised officers who review or approve AI proposals; and maintain current knowledge of principles, objectives, policy, law and the changing technology and risk environment, identifying and implementing any amendments needed to local policy, procedures and contract arrangements. Governance may build on existing frameworks by adding AI expertise to existing groups.
