Traditional on-the-job training, assignments, coaching and mentoring remain but are too slow and job-specific on their own, so development concentrates on agility and adaptability, on innovation, on collaborating and communicating, on being open to change and on higher-level thinking, delivered faster: scenario planning about possible futures to identify what leaders will need, frequent scenario training so responses become habitual, simulations that let leaders practise safely and see their gaps, and job rotation to think beyond one function; development plans use the four VUCA Prime skills (vision, understanding, clarity, agility) as their blueprint.
