Section 504 and Part 84 subpart A: purpose, application, disability, assurances, self-evaluation, coordinator, grievance and notice (84.1 to 84.10) – US Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 USC 794) and HHS Rule 45 CFR Part 84

US Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 USC 794) and HHS Rule 45 CFR Part 84 84.7-84.9: Designate a section 504 coordinator and adopt due-process grievance procedures (fifteen or more employees), and publish notice of the protections to employees, applicants and participants

What does 84.7-84.9 require?

A recipient employing fifteen or more persons must designate at least one person to coordinate its compliance efforts and must adopt grievance procedures incorporating appropriate due process standards for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any action Part 84 prohibits (procedures need not cover applicants for employment or for postsecondary admission). Every recipient must make information on Part 84 and its application to the recipient's programs available to employees, applicants, participants, beneficiaries and other interested persons, in the manner the head of the recipient finds necessary to apprise them of the protections. The Director may extend the coordinator, grievance and notice duties to smaller recipients where a violation is found or compliance would not significantly impair them.
