US Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and Regulation F (12 CFR Part 1006) 1692g(a): Send a written validation notice within five days of the initial communication stating the amount, creditor and dispute rights

Within five days of first communicating with a consumer about a debt, unless that first communication contained the information or the consumer has paid, a debt collector must send a written notice stating the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor owed, that the debt will be assumed valid unless the consumer disputes it or any part within thirty days of receipt, that on a written dispute within that period the collector will obtain and mail verification or a judgment copy, and that on a written request in that period it will supply the original creditor's name and address if different. Formal pleadings and notices required by tax, privacy or data breach law are not initial communications. Regulation F 1006.34 specifies the content and the Model Form B-1 safe harbour.
