US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR Parts 171 to 180)
Part 173: Shipper responsibilities, classification and general packaging requirements – US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR Parts 171 to 180)

US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR Parts 171 to 180) 173.150-156: Exceptions: limited quantities, consumer commodities (ORM-D), excepted quantities and the class-specific exceptions, with the conditions each imposes (173.4, 173.4a, 173.4b, 173.150 to 173.156)

What does 173.150-156 require?

An offeror may use the exceptions for small quantities (173.4), excepted quantities (173.4a) and de minimis quantities (173.4b), and the class-specific limited quantity exceptions for Classes 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9 and Division 6.1 (173.150 to 173.156), only within each exception's inner packaging and gross weight limits and with the limited quantity marking, the strong outer packaging, and the modal conditions (for example limited quantities by aircraft must meet the 173.27 and 172.315 requirements, and the ORM-D marking has been replaced by the limited quantity mark). Section 173.156 sets the additional exceptions for limited quantity and consumer commodity shipments by highway or rail, including the shipping paper exception. The offeror must document the basis for each exception used.
