US Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2014 (Public Law 113-274) 302a: The National Science Foundation continues the federal cyber scholarship-for-service programme

What does 302a require?

NSF's Director, with the Office of Personnel Management and Homeland Security, continues a federal cyber scholarship-for-service programme that recruits and trains IT professionals, control system security specialists and security managers for federal, state, local and tribal cybersecurity missions: scholarships through qualified institutions including community colleges for students in cybersecurity degree or certification programmes, covering tuition and fees for up to three years plus a stipend; summer internships or other temporary federal appointments; priority placement in federal employment; and a service agreement to work in a government cybersecurity mission for a period equal to the scholarship after graduation. Eligible recipients are citizens or lawful permanent residents, committed to an information security career, proficient in mathematics, engineering or computer science, full-time students in eligible programmes, and accept the scholarship terms; the Director evaluates and reports periodically to Congress on recruitment, hiring and retention, and may waive or suspend obligations where compliance is impossible, an extreme hardship or unconscionable.
