Search services take proportionate measures to mitigate the risks of harm identified and operate systems designed to minimise the risk of users encountering priority illegal content, and other illegal content the provider knows about, in search results, using measures across compliance, search design and algorithms, user controls, content prioritisation, user support and staff policies. There is no takedown duty as such. A clear, accessible and consistently applied publicly available statement explains protections and any proactive technology. In force: risk assessment duties from 16 December 2024 (first assessments due by 16 March 2025); safety duties from 17 March 2025, when the first illegal content codes took effect (s.51).
