UK Land Registration Act 2002
Part 1 and Part 2: The register of title, first registration (compulsory triggers, duty to apply, effect of non-compliance, cautions) – UK Land Registration Act 2002

UK Land Registration Act 2002 15-22: Cautions against first registration

What does 15-22 require?

A person with a qualifying interest in an unregistered estate may lodge a caution against first registration (section 15), which obliges the registrar to notify the cautioner of any application for first registration and gives the cautioner the right to object (section 16); cautions may be withdrawn or cancelled on application by the estate owner (sections 17, 18) and are entered in the cautions register (section 19). The registered proprietor may not lodge a caution in respect of his own estate (section 15(3)). Sections 20 to 22 allow alteration of the cautions register by the court or registrar.
