UK Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code) Standard 5: Standard 5: Detrimental use of data

Children's data must not be used in ways known to harm their wellbeing or that conflict with industry codes, other regulatory provisions or government advice (for example CAP advertising rules, the Ofcom Broadcasting Code, the Editors' Code, OFT principles for online games and the Chief Medical Officers' precautionary advice on screen time), applying a precautionary approach where formally recommended. Data-driven features that make it hard to disengage are likely to be unfair: avoid personalised rewards for extended play, present continuation options neutrally, avoid data-driven autoplay and provide pause-and-save mechanisms.
