A documented pest prevention programme is implemented that describes methods and responsibility for developing, implementing and maintaining it; records pest sightings and trends activity to target pesticide use; sets out prevention methods, elimination methods and inspection documentation, and the frequency of pest status checks; marks every monitoring or control device on a site map with its type, number, position and identification; lists chemicals, which must be approved by the relevant authority with safety data sheets available; explains how staff are made aware of the bait programme and what to do on contact with a bait station; sets staff awareness and training in pest chemicals and baits; and measures programme effectiveness to verify elimination and identify trends (11.2.4.1). Pest contractors or internal controllers are licensed and approved by the local authority, use only trained, qualified operators complying with regulations and only approved chemicals, provide a pest prevention plan with a site map of bait stations, traps and other devices, report to an authorised person on arrival and after inspections or treatments, inspect regularly and act on activity, and provide written reports of findings, inspections and treatments (11.2.4.2). Pest activity risks are analysed and recorded, trained site staff inspect regularly and act on activity, identified activity must not risk contaminating food, materials or packaging, and records of all inspections and applications are kept (11.2.4.3). Pest-contaminated food, materials or packaging are disposed of, and the infestation source investigated and resolved, with records (11.2.4.4). Pesticides kept on site are labelled and stored under 11.6.4 (11.2.4.5). Animals are kept out of all areas where food is handled or stored (11.2.4.6).
