South Africa National Health Insurance Act 20 of 2023 33: Medical schemes: complementary cover only once National Health Insurance is fully implemented

What does 33 require?

Once the Minister has determined by regulation that National Health Insurance is fully implemented, medical schemes may offer only complementary cover for services that the Fund does not reimburse (section 33). The Schedule amends the Medical Schemes Act's definitions of the business of a medical scheme and relevant health service to the same effect. Schemes and administrators need a benefit-design transition plan keyed to the Minister's determination.
