RICS Rules of Conduct and Global Professional Standards RB-PS2-3-4: Red Book: independence, confidentiality, draft discussions and information barriers

Valuers must meet any statutory, regulatory or client-specific independence criteria, keep client information confidential (confidentiality prevails over disclosure subject to law), keep written records of discussions with the client about the valuation before completion and of the reasons for any change to a provisional figure, and when giving preliminary advice or drafts must state that the view is provisional, for internal use only, not to be published or disclosed, and that omissions of fundamental matters are declared. Once informed consent is given for conflicting clients, any separation arrangement must be overseen by an uninvolved compliance officer and use different people (including support staff), physical separation and information that is inaccessible to the other side and kept securely.
