Parts 50 to 53: Traffic control, reports, workplace violence and working alone – Prince Edward Island Occupational Health and Safety Act General Regulations

Prince Edward Island Occupational Health and Safety Act General Regulations P52: Violence in the workplace: a risk assessment of violence from persons other than workers, procedures, policies and work arrangements to eliminate or minimise identified risk and to report, investigate and document incidents, workers informed of the risk and of persons with a history of violence, and medical advice for injured workers

What does P52 require?

The employer assesses the workplace to find out whether workers face a risk of injury from violence (physical force threatened, attempted or used by someone who is not a worker, including threatening statements or behaviour) arising from their work, considering the factors in section 52.2. Where a risk is identified the employer establishes procedures, policies and work environment arrangements to remove the risk or, where removal is not possible, to reduce it, and to set out how violent incidents are reported, investigated and documented. Workers who may be exposed are told how serious and how extensive the risk is, including information about a person known to have behaved violently whom they are likely to meet, and a worker reporting an injury or an adverse symptom caused by workplace violence is advised to see a physician they choose.
