Subpart Q: Concrete and Masonry Construction – OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926)

OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926) 1926.701: 1926.701 General requirements

No construction load may go onto a concrete structure, or any part of it, until the employer has determined, using information from a person qualified in structural design, that it can carry the load. All protruding reinforcing steel that employees could fall onto or into must be guarded so impalement cannot occur. During post-tensioning, only employees essential to the operation may be behind the jack, and signs and barriers must be put up to limit access to the tensioning area. Nobody may ride concrete buckets. Employees may not work under buckets while they are being raised or lowered into position, and elevated buckets must, as far as practical, travel along routes that expose no employee, or the fewest possible, if a bucket falls. An employee spraying a mix of cement, sand and water from a pneumatic hose (for example shotcrete or gunite work) must wear protective head and face equipment.
