Applies to overhead hoists on construction sites. The manufacturer's safe working load must be marked on the hoist and never exceeded, and the structure the hoist hangs from must have a safe working load at least equal to the hoist's. The support has to allow the hoist to move freely and line itself up with the load rather than hold it off-line. Hoists may be installed only where the operator can always keep out from under and away from the load. Air hoists must be connected to an air supply with enough capacity and pressure for safe operation, and every supply hose must be positively connected so it cannot come apart during use. Every overhead hoist in service must satisfy what the manufacturer prescribes for its build, design, installation, testing, inspection, upkeep and use.
