The Secretary runs education and training programs for construction employers and employees, and the employer should make use of them. The employer must instruct each employee in recognising and avoiding unsafe conditions and in the regulations that apply to that employee's work environment, so as to control or eliminate hazards. Employees who handle or use poisons, caustics or other harmful substances must be taught safe handling and use and told what hazards they face and which hygiene and protective measures are needed. Where the site has harmful plants or animals, employees who may be exposed must be told of the hazards, how to stay uninjured and what first aid to use if injured. Employees handling or using flammable liquids, gases or toxic materials must be instructed in safe handling and use and told of the relevant requirements in Subparts D and F and any other subpart that applies.
