Employees working where head injury is possible from impact, from objects falling or flying, or from electric shock and burns must be protected by protective helmets. Each employee must be given head protection built to ANSI Z89.1-2009, Z89.1-2003 or Z89.1-1997; for employees exposed to high-voltage shock and burns the head protection must also satisfy section 9.7 (electrical insulation) of one of those standards. A device the employer shows to be at least as effective as one built to those standards is deemed compliant.
