Oregon OSHA Construction Rules (OAR 437 Division 3) 437-003-2502: Use safety monitoring systems only for low-slope roofing within width limits, with a dedicated competent monitor

What does 437-003-2502 require?

A safety monitoring system is used only for roofing work on roof slopes of two in twelve or less, never alone (without a warning line) on roofs more than fifty feet wide; the employer designates a competent person as safety monitor who is competent to recognise fall hazards, warns employees who appear unaware of a fall hazard or act unsafely, stays on the same walking or working surface within sight and oral communication distance of the monitored employees, and has no other responsibilities that could distract from monitoring; mechanical equipment is not used or stored where the system is in use, and only employees engaged in roofing work enter the monitored area.
