Oregon OSHA Construction Rules (OAR 437 Division 3) 437-003-0096: Locate underground utilities under the Oregon one-call law before excavating, then protect them while the excavation is open

What does 437-003-0096 require?

In addition to the other Oregon rules on underground installations, the Oregon Public Utility Commission's excavation notification statutes and rules (ORS 757.541 to 757.571 and the one-call rules) apply, so the estimated location of sewer, telephone, fuel, electric, water and other underground installations likely to be met is determined before an excavation is opened; when operations approach the estimated location the exact location is found by safe and acceptable means; and for as long as the excavation stays open the installations are shielded, held up or taken out as employee safety requires, with hazardous surface encumbrances removed or supported.
