Data may be processed for academic, artistic or literary expression under the law, and for journalistic purposes with the aim of publishing information in the public interest. For journalistic purposes the GDPR other than its Article 5 principles does not apply only where all three conditions hold: the processing exercises freedom of expression and information while respecting private life and not affecting data subject interests that override the public interest; it is for publishing information in the public interest; and complying with the GDPR would be incompatible with or prevent that freedom. For academic, artistic or literary expression the first and third conditions apply. The Article 5 principles always apply.
