Continuing operations depends on mobilising people, so the organisation should think about how to encourage and help people come back when it most needs them, whether at existing premises or alternative locations. Factors affecting willingness and ability to attend include how individuals perceive the threat of travelling to or being at work, how they and their families perceive the risk to each other, their understanding of their own contribution to continuity, the importance they attach to the organisation's role or mission, and the availability of practical solutions for abnormal conditions. People-focused solutions to explore include improving understanding of the incident, the threats and the mitigations that make attendance safe; providing authoritative information from government or professional sources on health, safety and security; logistical support to get to work where transport is disrupted or felt unsafe; support for families, such as temporary care or flexible working; medical support and information; and preventive measures in line with authoritative advice, such as hand sanitiser during an infectious disease outbreak.
