Recommended in all cases for a device found off: remove the power cable at the device end rather than the socket end; disconnect and secure all cables and label the ports so the system can be rebuilt; and tape the power switch where needed after recording its state. Storage media generally stay in the device until it is acquired, since taking them out raises the risk of damage or of mixing them up with other media; local procedures on removal are written and followed.
