Clause 7: Instances by device type – ISO/IEC 27037:2012

ISO/IEC 27037:2012 7.1.2.1.3: 7.1.2.1.3 Additional activities: powered on digital device collection

Depending on the device: for a notebook, acquire volatile data before taking out the battery, then remove the main battery rather than pressing the power button (which may be set to run a script that alters or deletes data, alerts connected systems to erase evidence, or triggers a device meant to injure), and remove any power adapter after the battery; tape over a floppy slot if present; make sure optical drive trays are closed, note whether they are empty, hold discs or were not checked, and tape the slot shut, since media left inside may boot the machine next time it starts. Non-digital evidence is gathered in line with procedural law so it stays admissible.
