Clause 4: General requirements (impartiality, independence, confidentiality) – ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection

ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection 4.2.1: Legally enforceable confidentiality and notice of public information

What does 4.2.1 require?

Through legally enforceable commitments the body is responsible for managing all information obtained or created during inspection. It tells the client in advance what information it intends to make public; everything else, except what the client itself publishes or what both agree to release (for example in answering a complaint), is proprietary and treated as confidential.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 3 controls across 3 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

  • A23 Confidentiality, professional secrecy and the handover to an incoming auditor
  • 3:5 When an external actor performs a security scan, the supervisory authority must ensure it is bound by no confidentiality agreement with the operator that limits the authority's access, protects assignment information securely, uses the information only for that scan, and destroys it afterwards unless otherwise agreed with the operator

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
