ISO 55001:2024 6.2.1: Strategic asset management plan (SAMP)

What does 6.2.1 require?

The organization produces a strategic asset management plan (SAMP) setting out its strategies and approaches for taking decisions and for carrying out and aligning asset management activities. The SAMP (a) agrees with the asset management policy, (b) contains the decision-making framework and requires the value that has been defined and settled to be pursued, (c) sets the asset management objectives and how they will be met, (d) sets the process for identifying the capabilities those objectives need, (e) gives the time frames for delivering the SAMP, (f) sets out the contingencies that could affect delivery and how they will be handled, and (g) sets the approaches for improving the system, asset management and the assets. The organization keeps the SAMP in line with its financial plans and its other resource plans and explains how that alignment is achieved; the SAMP is kept as documented information and reviewed and updated from time to time.
