The organization should consider temporary focus groups to gain insight into specific concerns or topics of interest. A focus group brings together a few people close to, or knowledgeable about, the issue; it is the mechanism to consider when a particular issue needs to be understood in more depth, for example to find ways to improve, to learn how a task gets done, or to dig into why a process failed (why incidents go unreported, say, or why a culture survey came out as it did). Facilitation should be free of bias, and the workers taking part should feel at ease sharing what they know.
