The organization shall work out what knowledge its processes need to run and to make products and services conform, keep that knowledge up to date and make it available as far as needed. When needs and trends shift, it shall look at what it already knows and decide how to obtain, or gain access to, the extra knowledge and updates required. Organizational knowledge comes from experience inside the organization (for example intellectual property, lessons from both failures and successful projects, experience never written down, and the results of improvements) and from outside sources (for example standards, academia, conferences, customers and external providers).
