At planned intervals the organization must carry out a baseline review, which serves as the benchmark for setting and tracking priorities when it builds a sustainability strategy. Taking the purposes in 4.5 as its basis, it must examine and map where it stands on its compliance obligations, whether its current policies, objectives and targets are still relevant, and whether its current instruments (programmes, policies, plans and projects) are still relevant. It must settle, and rank, what the review covers, which methods of review, analysis and evaluation that will give valid results, which interested parties to involve, and the timetable for the review and for analysing and evaluating it. The review must produce recommended priorities for sustainable development over short, medium and long horizons, and suitable documented information must be kept for later use.
