Confirmation that the item and its elements are functionally safe comes in three forms: confirmation reviews that judge whether the key work products named in Table 1 show, adequately and convincingly, how they contribute to functional safety against the standard's objectives and requirements; a functional safety audit of how the required processes were carried out; and a functional safety assessment of the safety achieved by the item, or of a developed element's contribution. Table 1 fixes, by ASIL, each measure's scope and the independence of the person performing it (I0 to I3), covering among others the impact analysis, the HARA, the safety plan, the safety concepts, the safety analyses, the safety validation report, the audit and the assessment. Independence is organisational, to keep the judgement impartial; measures can be combined; reports identify the work products and process documents examined with their versions; and any change after a measure means repeating or extending it.
