Where the highest ASIL of the item's or element's safety requirements is ASIL (B), C or D, a functional safety audit shall be performed per 6.4.9 and completed before release for production by an appointed person; it may be judged against the standard's process-related objectives, and the audit report shall contain a judgement of the implementation of the required processes based on the evaluation of process implementation against the activities defined or referenced in the safety plan, the evaluation of safety plan outcomes against the organization's rules and processes, the evaluation of any rationale for how the process objectives were achieved, the availability of the work products required by the safety plan, their conformance with ISO 26262-8 10.4.3 and their consistency with one another, and improvement recommendations where applicable; an Automotive SPICE assessment alone is not sufficient for the audit or the assessment.
