ISO 26262:2018 - Functional Safety for Road Vehicles 2:6.4.4: 6.4.4 Reuse of an existing element

What does 2:6.4.4 require?

Where an existing element is reused, an element-level impact analysis shall identify the modifications of the operational environment including the resulting modifications of the element; assess whether the reused element, modified or not, can meet the safety requirements assigned to it from the item or element integrating it; identify the safety activities to be performed based on the impact of the modifications including on the validity of previous assumptions; and evaluate the existing safety-related documentation of the element and judge whether it supports its integration into the item or into another element. Reuse can rest on the evaluation of a hardware element (ISO 26262-8 clause 13), the qualification of a software component (clause 12), a proven in use argument (clause 14) or development as an SEooC (ISO 26262-10).
