When pests are seen where products are stored, or anywhere at a level that raises the likelihood of product contamination, the organization removes them, prevents recurrence and brings numbers down to a level that does not threaten product safety. Treatment using mechanical, biological or chemical means approved by the competent authority is done by a qualified or trained person, taking care to protect products and without compromising their safety or suitability. Potentially affected products and areas are isolated and eradication follows at once; products contaminated by the infestation or the eradication are treated as potentially unsafe; eradication is verified for effectiveness and recorded as soon as the infestation is reported; the cause is identified and corrective action stops it recurring. Pesticide use records show type, quantity and concentration, who applied it and where, when and how, the target pest, the result, and how affected products were handled.
